Capitol Hill in Monrovia is buzzing with political intrigue as Gbarpolu County District #1 Representative Zinnah Norman and Montserrado County District #17 Representative Bernard Benson, popularly known as DJ Blue, have officially joined the growing Renegade Lawmakers bloc. Their crossover brings the total number of renegades to 45, marking a significant shift in legislative dynamics.
The announcement comes as a surprise to many, given the pair’s earlier public commitment to embattled House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa. Both lawmakers had vowed to stand by the Speaker, expressing their belief that he was firmly “on the side of the law.”
However, in a dramatic turn of events, the lawmakers have decided to change course. DJ Blue, known for his vibrant personality both as a DJ and politician, passionately embraced his new colleagues, stating, “Today we come here to our colleagues because this is the side of the Liberian people.” His words underscore a deep sense of alignment with the renegade bloc, which continues to position itself as champions of the public interest.
This crossover raises questions about the Speaker’s hold on the House and the factors influencing such notable defections. For some, it signals growing dissatisfaction with the current leadership, while others see it as a strategic move ahead of critical legislative battles.
As the renegade bloc swells in numbers, the political future of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa remains uncertain. One thing is clear: the dynamics within the House of Representatives are shifting, and the nation will be watching closely to see how these changes shape Liberia’s governance.
