Liberian rapper MC CARO is no stranger when it comes to speaking her mind, and this time, she’s taking on major satellite broadcaster —DSTV. In her latest public outcry, MC Caro called for DSTV to incorporate Liberian entertainment or leave the country altogether Her statement comes in just days after Hon. Eugene Nagbe, managing director of ELBC, Liberia’s state broadcaster, called for DSTV’s shutdown over its failure to air Liberia National Television (LNTV).

This isn’t MC Caro’s first time calling out DSTV to spotlight Liberian content. Her advocacy dates back to June 30, 2022, when she tweeted this:

One Liberian TV Chanel on DSTV will take our art a long way.

She continued her campaign on July 4, 2022, highlighting that almost half of Liberia’s population uses DSTV, yet there isn’t a single Liberian channel on the platform. In that tweet, she tagged an industry key player, Cypha D’King, as she tweeted:

Almost everywhere in Liberia Monrovia precisely a lot of people have DSTV. I’m talking supermarkets, restaurants, bars, pharmacies, homes, n even jalloh shops are using DSTV. How can we get one or two Liberian tv channels on there @CYPHADKING?

The conversation took a sharper tone this year. On April 8, 2024, when MC Caro once again called DSTV to order, urging them to include Liberian channels in their programming.

This 2024 DSTV need to stop playin with us fr. I don’t care whether we got two content; we want a spot n we gone pay for it. This is the time to show us ur support towards our struggling industry. 2024 DSTV Liberia need to do better.”

After doing some research, the rapper noted in another that DSTV has been operating in Liberia for 26 years without incorporating a single Liberian channel. She expressed her frustration in another tweet, saying,

Over 26 years my people, DSTV been operating in Liberia for over 26 years and not one Liberian TV channel on there. How are we supposed to move forward??” – she questioned in another post, pushing for the inclusion of Liberian entertainment to help boost the struggling industry.

The rapper’s frustration reflects the collective sentiment shared by many Liberian artists, content creators, and industry leaders. They believe that incorporating Liberian channels on DSTV would significantly boost local talent and culture. On May 6, 2024, she further expanded on her vision for Liberia’s entertainment industry, calling for more platforms to promote Liberian content.

Build more platforms to promote Liberian contents all around Liberia and Africa. Like having 2-3 Liberian TV channels on DSTV n Multi TV,” she urged.

MC Caro also emphasized the need for infrastructure that could help Liberian artists create higher-quality content, such as building a “standard video studio people can rent n shoot quality music videos/contents.

Later that month, she took her frustrations online again, pointing out that social media, particularly TikTok, has been the primary platform for promoting Liberian artists outside the country with thousands of dollars being generated from Liberians by DSTV, yet no inclusion.

If not for social media who will knw Liberian artist outside… TikTok la our dstv n multi tv,” she lamented, highlighting the lack of formal avenues for exposure.

Fast forward to September 2024, her message has reached a boiling point. Frustrated by the slow progress and apparent neglect from DSTV, MC Caro delivered an ultimatum:

DSTV Liberia is wicked fr. Incorporate Liberian entertainment or leave.”

Her words resonate with many Liberians who share the same ideology and frustration. With DSTV being a dominant network in the country, its failure to broadcast Liberian content feels like a missed opportunity for growth, representation, and national pride. As MC Caro continues to push for this change, her voice serves as a powerful reminder that Liberian entertainment deserves a place on the international stage.

The question remains: Will DSTV finally heed the call and incorporate Liberian channels, or will the people rally behind MC Caro’s demand for them to pack up and leave? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—MC Caro won’t be backing down anytime soon.
