In a televised US presidential debate, former President Donald Trump shocked viewers with a wild allegation that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, are abducting and eating pets. “They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” Trump claimed, drawing immediate reactions from both the stage and the audience.

Vice President Kamala Harris, visibly taken aback by the statement, labeled the accusation as “extreme” and responded with laughter. The debate moderators quickly pointed out that local officials in Springfield have dismissed the claims, stating there is no evidence to back Trump’s allegations.

Adding to the confusion, Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, initially fueled the controversy but later walked back his comments, admitting that the claims might not be true after all.

The moment has since sparked a wave of discussions, with many questioning the accuracy of Trump’s statements and their impact on the national conversation surrounding immigration
