Colonel Claude Pivi, a prominent Guinean military and political figure, was arrested in Liberia following his escape from prison. Pivi, a member of the National Council for Democracy and Development (CNDD) and a former minister since 2008, had been awaiting trial for his alleged role in the 2009 Guinea stadium massacre, which left 157 civilians dead.
In November 2023, armed commandos, reportedly led by Pivi’s son, broke him out of prison. In response, the Guinean junta issued a €54,000 reward for his capture. Pivi was apprehended in Liberia through joint efforts between Guinean and Liberian security forces, according to reports.
