In a sharp rebuke, Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General Jefferson Koijee has accused Montserrado County Senator Darius Dillon of deceiving his constituents and indulging in extravagant spending, labeling him a “national monument of deception.”
In a Facebook post on Monday, Koijee criticized Dillon, questioning his public persona as a champion of transparency, accusing him of using his platform to mislead both Montserrado residents and the Liberian diaspora. Koijee cited Dillon’s role as Chair of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, alleging that his financial dealings contradict the populist stance he previously took.
“Before he held leadership, Dillon portrayed himself as a man of the people,” Koijee wrote, “but today, there’s a $20 million budgetary alteration, $15 million off-budget expenditure, and luxury perks such as a $45,000 car.” Koijee further accused Dillon of remaining silent on critical issues affecting Liberians, including claims of a $100,000 credit card held by Unity Party (UP) presidential candidate Joseph Boakai, the suffering of civil servants, and inadequate healthcare facilities.
Koijee also criticized Dillon for allegedly flying business class on international trips, including recent travel to New York, which he claims contradicts Dillon’s earlier pledge to avoid such luxuries. He added that Dillon’s actions now normalize similar behavior on past trips to South Korea and China.
The CDC official argued that Dillon’s leadership has done little to address Liberia’s pressing economic challenges, pointing out that the Senate’s budget for 103 individuals stands at $58 million. He called on Liberians to reject what he described as Dillon’s “empty rhetoric” and political showmanship.
Senator Dillon, who has been a vocal critic of government corruption, has yet to respond to the allegations.
