Going on a hiatus from a career or profession for personal reasons is a common occurrence. Often, individuals use this time to carefully plan their return. This was the case for Caka Dave, also known as Davy C.
Davy C is a popular Liberian rapper who is known for his catchy rap, meaningful wordplay, alliteration, and creativity. He gained prominence in the Liberian Music Industry in 2020 after the release of “MUAH MUAH.” For his unique style of rap and versatility, he caught the attention of music lovers in and across Liberia.
In 2021, the young and talented rapper got signed to the famous SMOOV HQ Entertainment – one of Liberia’s biggest record labels and former home to award-winning artist, MC Caro. At SMOOV HQ, Davy proved his worth by releasing back-to-back hits including “Body”, “Nothing For Nothing”, and “Something Big”. He worked with top artists like Caro, Nuchie Meek, Lavien, A-Wood, etc. These songs garnered almost 200K streams on Audiomack and were played on every corner, street, club, and radio across the country.
Surprisingly, after pulling all these numbers, Davy disappeared from the music scene – leaving fans in awe. However, Davy C’s sudden disappearance from the music scene left fans and industry insiders puzzled. For almost three years, his absence remained unexplained, with no official word from the rapper or his record label. It wasn’t until April of 2024 that Davy C resurfaced, surprising the internet with an unannounced freestyle titled “OPEN LETTER.” In this emotional track, he candidly addressed the reasons for his hiatus, revealing the personal struggles he faced, particularly the difficult period spent supporting his ailing mother in the hospital.
Despite these setbacks and a long time away from entertainment, Davy C has announced his comeback with the release of new music titled “TUPEE” featuring two of Liberia’s high-profile rappers, MC Caro and Bucky Raw which will be officially released on the 27th of September.
To ensure a strong comeback, Davy C is also working on the music video for his comeback song “TUPEE”. The audio and video may likely be dropped on the same date – last Friday in September.
