The student center of the African Methodist Episcopal University was seen ablaze due to a fire that started from within the building which was locked. It is unknown yet as to what started the fire, but we’re grateful that the Liberia National Fire Service was swift in curtailing any further spread to other buildings that were close by.
It is also yet unclear if anybody got hurt by the incident.
Though rumors were spreading fast that the school won’t be operating tomorrow because of the incident. The administration quickly came to clarify that the Student doesn’t consist of any classes or areas that has to do with academic activities. Making it clear that they’ll will be classes held through out while investigation into the incident is done.
The administration wrote via their official pages and to students of the school email:
“This is to inform you all that there has been an unfortunate fire incident on our campus. At about 10:00PM there was a fire in the Student Center. The Liberia Fire Service was called and promptly responded. The Fire Service was successful in turning off the fire and thankfully none of the other buildings were affected…… The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Our night security have barricaded the premises to avoid any further vandalism.
There will be a thorough assessment of the incident, with hopes of finding the cause of the fire and to assess the damages. We will update you all when we have further information.
This incident WILL NOT affect classes tomorrow. Although, sadden by the fire, we are fortunate that the damages did not affect the school building.
We are thankful to Pilot Security and The Liberia National Fire Service for their quick responds.
Please keep AME University in your prayers. God bless you all!!”
