The Fourth of July was topped off with a surprise announcement from musical artist and entrepreneur Kanye West that he would run for president in the 2020 election.
The artist announced the presidential bid in a tweet late Saturday.
\”We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,\” Kanye wrote in the tweet, followed with an American flag emoji and the hashtag #2020VISION.

Shortly after the announcement, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted his \”full support\” in response the presidential bid.

Kanye had been reportedly considering a presidential run at least as far back as 2018, according to friend and fellow musician John Legend.
