Just Days ago, J Mark Makai, PRO of the MusicianUnion of Liberia lashed at Awards platforms who gave out free awards to artist and entertainers. He also warned them to declinefrom such act and proitize the importance of the artist thus making them look unique and respectable,

With the message spreading quickly across the scope of the Industry, a well know blogger @Inside Liberia, Boimah Gordon has respond quickly to J Mark\’s message.

The blog started off by entitiling his message:

Don\’t use your current position to cause future instability – A case with J-Mark Markai, the public relations officer of \”MULIB\”.

He then further lamented.

Many of the challenges we are faced with today as a country can be squarely attributed to the decisions made by our past leaders. Some took advantage of their position then, which has led us to where we are today; and this is the same case with J-Mark.
This happens because we are always electing the wrong leaders to govern us; whenever we have been given the opportunity to elect our leaders, it is like we have been given a blank check.

Now to the issue.

On February 6, 2020, the public relations official of the musicians union of Liberia in J-Mark Markai made an assertion via his official Facebook page mandating awarding platforms to add monetary value to their awards by presenting cash prize(s) to winners. In his assertion, which I view as being very demanding and authoritative, he stated that \”Our critical stand on Awarding platforms, adding value to Awards will not be jeopardized by Tunes Liberia Music Awards.

All awarding platforms based in Liberia must attach value to their platforms. We\’ll not accept Tunes Liberia Music Awards organizers to get rich at the detriment of Liberian artists, DJs, producers, comedians, etc., in the name of promotions, and dashed our interest. ( unedited version)

It beats my imagination and intuition to see someone who claims to be the public relations officer of the musicians union, to run with an issue he does not have an understanding about.
Anyway, I\’m not surprised and shocked that such a statement will emanate from him because even the president of the union is inept and unprepared to lead the musicians union.

This draconian and purported action by J- Mark will not only serve as a demotivating factor to Tunes Liberia but also a discouraging factor to those institutions wanting to organize awards show.
Trust me, this policy is going to meet huge and massive resistance and opposition, and anyone who supports such policy may be doing it out of ignorance and at their own detriment.

There are no rules mandating awarding platforms to attach Cash prize(s) to their awards. Even the most prestigious award, the Oscar, does not present cash prize(s) to their winners, least to mention Grammy. There is a difference between appeal and mandate, but sadly, the PRO doesn\’t know. What I do know is that you can only appeal to awarding platforms to affix cash prize(s) or they may decide to do it at their own discretion as in the case of #LMA.

Already our music industry is languishing as a result of you guys ill-fated leadership mastery, instead of your formulating policies that will help stimulate and strengthen our industry, you are on tapata.

The brother claims that Tunes Liberia is benefiting at the detriment of the industry, but interestingly they are not. The brother wants to use his position at the detriment of our already struggling and striving industry.
May God bless our industry and save it from the hands of the wicked.
